The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) will hold a special national prayer for the peace, stability and progress of Nigeria on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
The prayer, convened under the leadership of the NSCIA President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will take place at the Abuja National Mosque Complex from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
According to a statement issued by the Council’s Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh, the gathering will provide Muslims with an opportunity to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
The council also called on Muslims across the country to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development.
The national prayer will precede the NSCIA General Assembly scheduled to hold at the same venue on Thursday, October 1, beginning at 10am. The General Assembly is described by the council as its highest decision-making organ and largest gathering.
Senior Muslim leaders and representatives from across the country are expected at the General Assembly, including the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; Secretary-General, Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede; and Deputy Secretary-General, Professor Salisu Shehu.
Muslim public office holders, including governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers and heads of government agencies, as well as representatives of the 36 state councils for Islamic affairs and the Federal Capital Territory, are also expected to participate.
The council said the General Assembly would provide a platform for consultation and reflection on issues affecting the NSCIA, the Muslim Ummah and the country.
The NSCIA reiterated its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, fostering peaceful coexistence and supporting efforts aimed at the stability and progress of Nigeria.
