Women from NNPC Limited took centre stage at the 2026 Ascent Top 100 Career Women in Africa Awards held in Lagos.

The event celebrated outstanding female leaders across the continent.

The Executive Vice President, Business Services, Sophia Mbakwe, led the recognition.

In addition, Nkechi Anaedobe and Uzo Ejidoh, both from NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), also received honours.

The awards recognised their leadership and contributions to the energy sector.

This year’s event carried the theme “Power, Presence, and Prestige.”

During her keynote speech, Mbakwe explained the meaning of the theme.

She said power means the ability to influence decisions. Meanwhile, presence means showing up consistently. Prestige, she added, comes from integrity and results.

Call for Confidence and Resilience

Mbakwe also shared her career journey.

She spoke about rising from a junior role to a top executive position. However, she noted that challenges shaped her growth.

She urged women to overcome self-doubt.

“Try, fall, and get back up,” she said.

NNPC Launches Women Initiative

In addition, Mbakwe announced the Women in NNPC (WIN) Initiative.

The programme will support women through mentorship and leadership development.

She encouraged women to support one another and create opportunities.

Celebrating African Women Leaders

The Ascent Top 100 Awards recognise women who drive change across Africa.
