Twenty-two-year-old Nigerian model and creative Rachel Ojuromi is taking her unconventional street-style videos from Lagos to the global fashion stage after her work was featured in the worldwide debut of Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection.
Ojuromi, known online as @giverachelashot, has attracted attention for turning everyday scenes in Lagos into creative fashion content. From hawking and running errands to navigating busy streets, she has transformed ordinary moments into unconventional runways.
Her approach combines high-fashion styling with familiar Lagos environments, creating videos that reflect the energy of the city while showcasing her modelling skills.
From Lagos Streets to the Global Fashion Scene
Ojuromi’s appearance in Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2027 debut comes after years of creating fashion content outside traditional modelling spaces.
Rather than waiting for a conventional runway, she has used the streets of Lagos as her backdrop, blending fashion, street culture and creative storytelling.
In a BBC interview, the 22-year-old spoke about her journey, her passion for fashion and the inspiration behind her distinctive street-modelling videos.
Her work demonstrates how everyday environments can become part of a fashion narrative, with Lagos providing both the setting and the creative energy behind her content.
A Journey Built on Community
Following the Chanel debut, a heartfelt message celebrated the people who contributed to the creative journey, describing the moment as more than an individual achievement.
The tribute first recognised Maria Osayioju Romi, the designer’s mother, who sold clothes throughout her life even when the business was no longer profitable.
“It is for my mom who sold clothes all her life even when it wasn’t sustainable or profitable,” the message said.
Debby, who designed and created several garments from second-hand pieces, was also recognised for her resourcefulness and creativity despite limited access to materials.
Odey was praised for documenting the creative process. Despite her daily commitments, she made time to film the videos each week, helping preserve the story behind the project.
The message also thanked friends who continued to support the creative vision, even when the idea appeared unconventional.
“It is for all my friends who chose to support me everyday even when I seemed insane,” it said.
Encouraging a New Generation of Creatives
The tribute also carried a message for artists, dreamers and other creatives who may be pursuing ideas that others do not immediately understand.
“Please dream and dream and dream yourself into a life you know is possible even when nobody understands it,” it said.
It further encouraged creatives to value their ideas and curiosity, describing them as forces that can take people further than they might imagine.
“Your thoughts and ideas and curiosities are beyond valid and it can take you further than even you can believe,” it added.
For Ojuromi, the Chanel moment represents how far an unconventional creative idea can travel.
What began as fashion videos made on the streets of Lagos has now reached one of the world’s most recognised fashion platforms, showing that a runway does not always have to be traditional.
For a young Nigerian creative, the streets of Lagos became the starting point for a much bigger fashion story.
