Liverpool continued their impressive pre-season form with a 1-0 victory over Wrexham in a friendly match at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday.
Teenage forward Rio Ngumoha scored the only goal of the game in the 75th minute, giving new manager Andoni Iraola his second consecutive win since taking charge of the club.
Ngumoha Seals Liverpool Victory
Ngumoha finished from close range to delight more than 42,000 supporters, most of whom backed Liverpool at the famous stadium.
The victory followed Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Sunderland in Nashville last weekend, which marked Iraola’s first game in charge after replacing Arne Slot.
Injury Concerns Continue
Liverpool were without several key players for the match.
Defender Joe Gomez missed the game after picking up an injury against Sunderland.
New signing Jeremy Jacquet was also unavailable, while World Cup stars Ryan Gravenberch, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak remained absent.
However, Iraola said Gravenberch, Wirtz and Isak could return for Liverpool’s final match of their United States tour against Leeds at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday.
Wrexham Build Towards New Season
Wrexham entered the match in good form after recording pre-season victories over Manchester United and Leeds.
The Welsh club, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, narrowly missed the Championship play-offs on the final day of last season.
Despite the defeat, Wrexham will continue preparations for the new campaign with confidence after an encouraging pre-season schedule.
