The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Gombe State University Branch, has commenced its Islamic Political Class (IPC) for the semester with a well-attended session focused on the dynamics of social media activism.

The event, held at Gombe State University, was themed “Social Media Activism: Benefits and Dangers.” It brought together students and members of the academic community for a structured discourse on the growing influence of digital platforms.

Dr. Ibrahim Hassan of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, delivered the lead presentation, examining both the opportunities and risks associated with social media activism in contemporary society. He highlighted its role in civic engagement while cautioning against misuse and misinformation.

The session was further enriched by contributions from Mr. Hadu Naphtaliligari, Public Relations Officer of Gombe State University, who provided practical insights and clarifications. Moderation was handled by Professor Abdullahi Bappah Garkuwa, former Commissioner for Science, Innovations and Technology, who guided the discussion and added analytical perspectives.

A notable highlight was the presence of Dr. Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido, former National Ameer of MSSN and former leader of the Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria (MCAN). He emphasized the importance of Tarbiyah (moral and spiritual discipline), urging students to adopt responsible conduct online and avoid personal attacks or character defamation.

The programme recorded strong participation, with attendees describing the session as insightful and impactful. It also attracted key stakeholders, including representatives of the Gombe State Students Association (GOSSA) and past MSSN executives.

The MSSN GSU Branch indicated its intention to sustain the IPC series, positioning it as a platform for continuous intellectual engagement on socio-political and ethical issues.
