The Kaduna State Police Command has condemned the mob killing of a woman accused of child theft in Maraban Jos, describing the incident as barbaric and a direct violation of the rule of law.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mandir Hassan, the incident occurred on June 21, 2026, after the woman was attacked by a mob following allegations of child stealing.
The statement said police officers intervened and moved the woman to the station to protect her life while investigations into the allegation commenced.
However, the situation escalated when a large crowd stormed the police station, overpowered officers on duty, forcibly removed the woman from custody, and killed her before setting her body ablaze.
The victim, who was identified as a native of Maraban Jos, was killed despite efforts by security personnel to prevent the attack.
The Police Command described the act as criminal and warned that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands.
It disclosed that several suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons involved.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, assured that all those responsible would face prosecution, stressing that the command would not tolerate jungle justice, mob action, or attacks on police facilities.
The police urged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies and allow due process to take its course.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring justice is served in accordance with the law.
