A 20 year old woman has died after her husband allegedly beat her during a domestic dispute over food in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The incident happened on July 12, 2026, with police identifying the suspect as Musbawu Amodu, who reportedly attacked his wife after she refused to prepare a meal.
According to the Nasarawa State Police Command, the argument turned violent and left the woman with fatal injuries, she later died from the assault.
The couple had been married for six years and had two children, a boy and a girl.
Police said Amodu confessed to the crime during interrogation. Detectives have transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, condemned the killing and described it as a tragic and avoidable loss of life.
He stressed that no disagreement, regardless of the circumstances, justifies violence or the taking of a human life. The commissioner urged couples to resolve conflicts through dialogue and peaceful means instead of resorting to violence.
The police also called on residents to report cases of domestic violence before they escalate into tragedy.
