Gov. Buni Elevates Dr. Goje as Acting SSG

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the appointment of a Harvard-trained humanitarian expert, Dr. Mohammed Goje, as the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), following a recent vacancy in the office.

The appointment was confirmed in an official statement issued by the governor’s media office, noting that the decision takes immediate effect and is aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and administrative coordination.

Dr. Goje, who previously served as Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), is widely regarded for his experience in humanitarian response, policy coordination, and disaster management. In that role, he led emergency preparedness and intervention efforts across the state.

His elevation comes after the resignation of the former SSG, Baba Malam Wali, who stepped down to pursue his ambition in the 2027 governorship race, thereby creating a leadership gap within the state’s executive structure.

Government sources indicate that the appointment reflects Governor Buni’s preference for technocratic competence and administrative experience, particularly in a state facing ongoing humanitarian and developmental challenges.

The new Acting SSG is expected to play a central role in policy implementation, inter-agency coordination, and the day-to-day management of government business, as the administration intensifies efforts to deliver on its governance agenda.

Observers note that the choice of a globally trained professional signals an attempt to strengthen institutional capacity and improve service delivery in the state.
