Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has expressed sadness over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest military officers.
Pantami, in a condolence message, said he was deeply saddened by the loss of the former military spokesman, who died after being abducted by criminals while travelling with his wife in Katsina State.
“Words fail me to describe the sadness and pain of losing one of our finest military officers after he was abducted by criminals while travelling with his wife in Katsina State last month,” Pantami said.
The professor recalled the character of the late general, citing a description by their mutual friend and colleague during their master’s degree programme, Permanent Secretary Adamu Abadam, who described Abubakar as a humble, generous, and caring individual.
Major General Rabe Abubakar served as the Director of Defence Information between 2015 and 2017, where he played a key role in communicating the activities of the Nigerian military to the public.
Pantami also highlighted Abubakar’s contributions to counter-insurgency operations and his commitment to national stability, unity, and service to Nigeria.
“My heartfelt condolences go to his family, relatives, friends, the Katsina State Government, the Nigerian Army, and all those affected by his death,” he stated.
He prayed for Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus, while also asking for strength and patience for his family to bear the loss.
Pantami further condemned the activities of criminals responsible for insecurity, praying for justice against their supporters and sponsors.
