President of Real Madrid Florentino Pérez has promised to authorize the biggest transfer in the club’s history if members re-elect him as president on Sunday, signaling plans for a marquee summer signing as part of a renewed Galácticos project.
Speaking ahead of the club’s presidential election, Pérez revealed that Real Madrid intends to pursue a high-profile player from one of Europe’s leading clubs.
“On Tuesday or so, I’m going to make an offer to a major Champions League club for a great player. It would be the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid in its history,” Pérez said.
The veteran club chief described the target as an attack-minded midfielder but declined to disclose the player’s identity.
Pérez also dismissed speculation linking the Spanish giants with several prominent names.
“Olise is a great player, but it’s not Olise. It’s not Doku either,” he said, while also ruling out Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane and Manchester City star Erling Haaland.
He further indicated that the player does not currently play in the Premier League.
“We’re going to make a significant offer, at least around 150 million euros,” Pérez said. “He needs to be a player from midfield who can go forward.”
Pérez said the proposed signing would energize supporters and mark the beginning of a new era at the Santiago Bernabéu.
“It’s a signing meant to generate excitement because that’s what it’s all about, generating excitement,” he said.
The election comes during a difficult period for Real Madrid. The club finished a second consecutive season without a major trophy and fell behind rivals Barcelona in the La Liga title race.
Nearly 100,000 club members will cast their votes on Sunday to decide whether Pérez secures another term as president or challenger Enrique Riquelme takes charge of the club.
