The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has approved the appointment of Mr. Ezekiel Gomos, OFR, as the Director-General of its Secretariat, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and improving coordination among the 19 northern states.
The appointment, announced by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, follows the creation of the new office of Director-General as part of ongoing reforms to reposition the Forum for more effective regional action.
According to the NSGF, the establishment of the office is a strategic step toward enhancing policy coordination, collective decision-making, and long-term development planning across the North.
Mr. Gomos, a former Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, is an accomplished development economist and policy expert with decades of experience in governance reform, private-sector development, and human capital advancement. His professional background includes senior roles with the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
He has also served as Lead Consultant and Head of Faculty at the Jos Business School, and for nearly two decades, as a resource person at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), contributing to the training of senior policymakers and public-sector leaders.
Mr. Gomos holds degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of East Anglia, UK, and is a recipient of several prestigious international fellowships, including the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship, the British Chevening Scholarship, and a UNDP Fellowship at the ILO Training Centre in Turin.

He has attended executive programmes at Harvard Kennedy School, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and Durham University Business School.
Presenting the appointment letter, Governor Yahaya urged the new DG to deploy his vast expertise in leadership, strategic planning, and institutional management to strengthen the Secretariat and reinforce collaboration on security, economic cooperation, and sustainable development across the region.
The NSGF Chairman expressed confidence that Gomos’ appointment would usher in a new era of deeper cooperation and more coherent regional responses to the North’s urgent challenges.
