In a bid to strengthen security within the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Police Command has ordered an immediate clampdown on suspected criminal hideouts and intensified patrols across Abuja.
The directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, on Tuesday, mandates all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to conduct sweeping raids on uncompleted and abandoned buildings, as well as other locations believed to harbour criminal elements.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the measure takes immediate effect and forms part of a broader, proactive strategy to prevent crime and enhance public safety within the capital city.
“CP Ajao has directed that all DPOs carry out thorough raids on suspected hideouts and ensure regular patrols, especially around uncompleted buildings,” Adeh stated. “The goal is to ensure that such sites are not turned into safe havens for criminals.”
The police also urged property developers to collaborate with security agencies by ensuring that security guards, artisans, and labourers residing at construction sites are properly documented and profiled before the end of October 2025.
In addition, the command reiterated that scavenging activities, popularly known as “Baban Bola”, remain strictly prohibited within the FCT. CP Ajao ordered that unidentified persons found at construction sites after 6:00 p.m. be arrested and investigated.
Residents were also advised to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious individuals or scavenging activities to the nearest police station.
The directive underscores the FCT Police Command’s determination to curb rising concerns over urban security and to ensure that Nigeria’s capital remains safe for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
