FIFA has officially presented “Trionda” as the official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament that will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The ball, designed by Adidas, carries forward the legacy of innovative match balls while introducing advanced technology and symbolic design features that reflect the tournament’s scale.

The name “Trionda” is derived from the combination of “Tri” and “Onda,” signifying both the three host nations and the waves of global unity that the World Cup embodies. The ball features a unique triangular panel design, moving away from the traditional hexagonal and pentagonal panels of older World Cup balls.

According to FIFA, the design was inspired by the themes of diversity, connection, and movement, with colors that echo the cultural vibrancy of North America. The outer surface includes textures meant to enhance grip, accuracy, and aerodynamics, offering players greater control in fast-paced matches.

Beyond aesthetics, “Trionda” is embedded with cutting-edge technology. Adidas revealed that the ball carries an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor placed inside the core. This sensor will transmit real-time data to match officials, supporting decisions on offsides and other match incidents when paired with FIFA’s semi-automated offside technology.

“This is more than just a ball; it’s a fusion of tradition and technology,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said at the unveiling ceremony. “Trionda reflects the spirit of three nations coming together to host the world, while ensuring that football remains at the forefront of innovation.”

Adidas engineers also noted that the ball underwent rigorous testing in wind tunnels, laboratories, and on-field trials with professional players to guarantee consistency, speed, and stability.

“Trionda” follows the path of recent World Cup balls such as “Al Rihla” in Qatar 2022 and “Telstar 18” in Russia 2018. Like its predecessors, it balances heritage with progress. Unlike older models, however, the triangular panel structure is expected to make it one of the most aerodynamically advanced balls in tournament history.

The unveiling marks an important milestone on the road to the 2026 World Cup, which is expected to be the largest in history, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches across the three host countries.

Players, fans, and coaches are already reacting to the reveal. Several international stars who tested the ball described it as “fast, stable, and responsive.”

“The ball moves really well in the air but stays predictable when you strike it,” one European player who took part in the trials remarked. “I think forwards will love it.”

With its symbolic design, technological upgrades, and cultural inspiration, “Trionda” is set to become one of the most talked-about World Cup balls ever produced.
