Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has called on politicians to refrain from politicising insecurity, urging residents instead to unite in supporting efforts to restore peace and continue praying for the state.
The governor made the appeal during a sensitisation programme and public lecture organised by the Katsina Scholars Forum for Community Advancement, where he stressed that insecurity should not be exploited for political advantage but addressed through collective action. (Katsina State)
Radda said defeating banditry and other forms of criminality requires the cooperation of all stakeholders, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies and members of the public.
He urged residents to expose informants and collaborators who provide intelligence, logistics and other forms of support to criminal groups, noting that government alone cannot overcome the security challenge without community participation. (Channels Television)
The governor commended the state’s Community Watch Corps for supporting security agencies in protecting lives and property, describing the outfit as a vital component of Katsina’s security architecture.
According to him, the contributions of the volunteer corps have helped improve security in several parts of the state, although authorities remain vigilant over emerging threats in some local government areas. (Channels Television)
Radda also appealed to Islamic clerics to use their sermons to promote peace, obedience to the law and support for security agencies, saying religious leaders have a critical role in shaping public attitudes toward security and peaceful coexistence.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the traditional institution through improved welfare for district and village heads to enhance grassroots security and governance. (Katsina State)
Speaking at the event, the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, Sheikh Ibrahim Makari, emphasised that government alone cannot defeat insecurity and called for stronger community-based intelligence gathering to complement the efforts of security agencies.
Earlier, the convener of the programme, Sheikh Munir Adam Koza, urged residents to continue praying for lasting peace while supporting government initiatives aimed at restoring security across Katsina State. (Katsina State)
