The Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NNGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed.
Nafiu Baba-Ahmed passed away earlier today, prompting condolences from political, religious and community leaders across Northern Nigeria and beyond.
In a statement reacting to the development, Chairman of the NNGF and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, described the deceased as a voice of wisdom, justice and moral responsibility.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya said Baba-Ahmed’s contributions to national discourse earned him considerable respect across Northern Nigeria and the country at large.
According to the governor, the death of the SCSN Secretary-General represents a profound loss to Northern Nigeria, the Muslim Ummah and Nigeria as a whole.
He described the deceased as a strong and principled voice whose counsel and interventions contributed meaningfully to public discourse, while promoting justice, morality and social responsibility.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya commended Baba-Ahmed’s legacy of service, noting that his contributions to religious and national affairs would remain significant to those who encountered his ideas and leadership.
The NNGF chairman extended his condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the leadership and members of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, the Government and people of Kaduna State, as well as the wider Muslim Ummah.
He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, reward his good deeds abundantly and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
The governor also prayed for strength and comfort for the deceased’s family and all those mourning his passing.
