Sheikh Professor Mansur Isa Yelwa has stepped down from his position as the Chief Imam of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), bringing an end to his service as the university’s principal Islamic leader.
Reports indicate that the respected Islamic scholar announced his decision to relinquish the position of Imamate, a development that has generated reactions among members of the Muslim community, particularly followers of his teachings.
Sheikh Mansur Yelwa is widely recognised as a scholar of Islamic studies and a prominent preacher who has delivered numerous lectures and Qur’anic teachings. His works and religious programmes have attracted audiences within and outside Nigeria.
His tenure as Chief Imam of ATBU placed him at the centre of religious activities within the university community, where he led prayers and provided spiritual guidance to staff and students.
The reason behind his decision to step aside was not immediately disclosed in available reports. However, the move marks a significant transition in the religious leadership structure of the institution.
The development comes amid continued discussions within Nigeria’s Muslim community on the roles and responsibilities of Islamic scholars, including issues surrounding religious leadership, unity and service to society.
