Nigeria to Host ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers Again

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional C Qualifiers will be held in Nigeria for the second consecutive year. The tournament will run from October 18 to 25 according to reports

The ICC confirmed the schedule in a statement released on Wednesday.

Nigeria Leads Six-Team Battle

Nigeria, also known as the Yellow Greens, will host the competition after winning the last edition in Abuja in 2024. They secured the title with a game to spare but later missed out on qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup at the regional final stage.

This year, Nigeria will compete against Gambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Uganda, and Zambia. The six teams will fight for two qualification spots into the regional final next year.

Path to the 2028 T20 World Cup

The Africa Qualifier process forms part of the qualification pathway for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 in Australia and New Zealand. Two teams from the final regional stage will earn direct spots at the global tournament.

Other Qualifiers Already Underway

The Sub-Regional Qualifier B has already been completed. Tanzania and Ghana advanced after finishing first and second respectively at the tournament held in Ghana in March.

Meanwhile, Botswana will host Sub-Regional Qualifier A from May 23 to 30 in Gaborone.

Botswana to Host Major ICC Event

Botswana is preparing to host its first ICC Men’s event since 2018. Matches will be played at the BCA Oval in Gaborone.

Teams competing include Botswana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone. The top two sides will progress to the 2027 regional final.

The tournament will follow a single round-robin format, featuring 21 matches in total.
