A renowned Islamic scholar, Prof Sani Umar Rijar Lemu, has called on politicians across the country not to destabilise Nigeria in pursuit of personal interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The cleric appealed during a Friday prayer session in Kano, where he urged political leaders to remember that politics is rooted in leadership and service to humanity.
According to him, the word “Siyasa,” which means politics in Arabic, is closely tied to leadership and responsibility, not selfish ambition.
Prof Sani Umar said politicians must work to change the negative perception many Nigerians have about politics, stressing that leadership should not be seen as a platform for personal gain alone.
He noted that true leadership is built on service delivery, trustworthiness and sacrifice.
The Islamic scholar further reminded leaders that leadership is an “Amana” a sacred trust that must be handled with sincerity and accountability for the benefit of the people.
He also prayed for political leaders and for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.
