Member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress and defected to the African Democratic Congress.

The lawmaker disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, revealing that his resignation letter was officially announced during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.

According to him, the move marks the beginning of a new political chapter focused on “progressive and people-focused service.”

“I am now a member of the ADC, and I will be seeking re-election to continue representing the good people of Kaduna North Federal Constituency on this platform,” he stated.

El-Rufai said he was joined in the political transition by Suleiman Richifa, representing Soba Federal Constituency, and Umar Ajilo, representing Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency, who also defected to the ADC from their former parties.

The lawmaker described the decision as one taken after careful consideration, adding that his political values are rooted in courage, conviction, and service to the people.

“As a proud son of Nasir El-Rufai, I am guided by courage, conviction, and the unshakable belief that our people deserve the very best,” he said.

He assured constituents in Kaduna North that his commitment to quality representation remains unchanged despite the political shift.

“We will never compromise on delivering quality representation. There is still so much to do,” he added.

Beyond politics, El-Rufai also announced plans to launch an ad hoc committee for a Primary Health Care initiative unveiled last week.

The initiative, according to him, will provide medical supplies to Primary Health Care Centres across parts of the constituency.

He explained that the first phase of the programme would begin with centres in Unguwar Sarki Ward and Badarawa/Malali Ward, including the distribution of 1,000 syringes per PHC alongside other essential medical items.

The defection adds to the growing wave of political realignments ahead of future electoral contests, with parties intensifying grassroots mobilization and coalition-building across the country.
