A United States federal grand jury has indicted Kenneth Godwin over an alleged scheme to embezzle funds from a casino owned by a Native American tribe in South Dakota.

The United States Department of Justice announced the indictment on Wednesday as prosecutors charged Godwin with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and unauthorised access to a protected computer in furtherance of fraud.

According to the statement, investigators believe Godwin lives in Nigeria. Authorities said he could face up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, supervised release, and restitution if a court convicts him.

The DOJ said Godwin and other suspects allegedly conspired between May 2023 and March 2026 to steal funds from Prairie Wind Casino & Hotel. The business belongs to and operates under the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

An FBI official, Parsons, said the agency would continue to track fraud suspects regardless of their location.

“No agency on earth is better at this than the FBI. They will track down those who steal from and commit fraud against the people of the United States wherever those offenders may be,” he said.
