Xavi Simons will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup after a knee injury in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Wolves.

The 23-year-old left the pitch on a stretcher after hurting his right knee on Saturday. Early reports point to a possible ACL injury that could keep him out for months.

Simons shared his reaction on Instagram and said he feels “heartbroken.”

“My season has ended suddenly and I’m still trying to process it,” he wrote. “I wanted to fight for my team, but I can’t now. I will also miss the World Cup.”

The injury deals a big blow to Tottenham and manager Roberto De Zerbi. The club sits just two points above the relegation zone with four games left.

Simons was set to play a key role for the Netherlands at the World Cup in North America, which starts in June.
