French authorities have summoned Elon Musk for a voluntary interview in Paris over an ongoing investigation into his platform, X.

Prosecutors launched the probe in January 2025. They are examining claims that X’s algorithm may have influenced French politics.

Officials sent the summons in February. It remains unclear if Musk will appear as expected.

Authorities later expanded the probe to include Grok, developed by xAI.

The expansion followed allegations that Grok enabled Holocaust denial content and explicit deepfake images.

In early February, authorities searched X’s Paris offices. The company criticised the move and called it a politicised action.

Prosecutors also invited Linda Yaccarino for questioning. They described both Musk and Yaccarino as key managers at the time.

Yaccarino stepped down as CEO in July last year after two years in the role.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said several X employees must appear as witnesses between April 20 and 24.

The prosecutor’s office added that the investigation will continue even if those invited fail to appear.

Authorities have not disclosed the time or venue for Musk’s interview.

The probe covers several suspected offences. These include alleged links to child abuse material and denial of crimes against humanity.

X has denied wrongdoing. The company insists the investigation is politically motivated.

The case forms part of wider scrutiny of Grok. Reports say users could generate sexualised images using simple prompts.

The Center for Countering Digital Hate said the chatbot created millions of such images within days.

Separately, regulators in the United Kingdom opened investigations into X and xAI over data protection concerns.

The European Union has also launched a similar probe.

The developments highlight growing regulatory pressure on Musk’s technology businesses, especially in Europe.
