INEC Postpones Nationwide Voter Revalidation Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise.

The Commission will now conduct the exercise after the 2027 General Election.

INEC reached the decision during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners on April 10, 2026.

Officials reviewed the proposed exercise before announcing the postponement.

The exercise aims to improve the accuracy of the National Register of Voters.

It will verify voter records and remove duplicate or ineligible entries.

It will also allow voters to update and correct their personal details.

INEC said the exercise remains important for strengthening the credibility of elections.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to free, fair, and inclusive electoral processes.

The postponement shifts focus to preparations for the 2027 elections.

Voter register updates will now take place after the electoral cycle.
