The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs says the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted in Nigeria.
The committee said no moon sighting reports were received from various observation groups across the country.
Wednesday, March 18, 2026 marked the 29th day of Ramadan 1447AH.
As a result, Thursday, March 19, 2026 will be observed as the 30th day of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
He serves as the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
The Sultan accepted the report of the National Moon Sighting Committee following nationwide consultations.

He therefore declared Friday, March 20, 2026 as the first day of Shawwal 1447AH.
The day will be observed across Nigeria as Eid-el-Fitr.
The Sultan congratulated Muslims for successfully completing the Ramadan fasting period.
He also prayed for Allah’s guidance, peace and blessings for Muslims and the entire country.
The Sultan urged the Muslim community to continue praying for national peace and development.
He wished all Muslims a joyful and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
