Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has said his daughters can take charge of the family business, his comments challenge the traditional expectation of a male heir.
Dangote made the remarks during an interview with Arise News journalist, Ojy Okpe. He said his daughters, Mariya, Halima and Fatima, already hold senior roles in the Dangote Group.
According to the billionaire, his daughters have the skills needed to protect the family name. He also said they can help sustain the business he has built over several decades.
Dangote dismissed the idea that the family needs a son to secure its future. He said such matters remain in God’s hands.
The businessman also raised the possibility that having a son could hurt the family’s reputation. He said a male heir could damage the family name if he failed to handle the responsibility well.
His comments come as his daughters take on greater roles within the business. Their responsibilities include areas such as commercial strategy and international operations.
The Dangote Group continues to expand its interests across Africa. The group is also investing heavily in major projects, including the Dangote Refinery.
During the interview, Dangote also spoke about his early success. He recalled buying a private jet before he turned 23.
His comments have drawn attention to the possible role of his daughters in the future of the business empire. For Dangote, gender does not determine who can protect the family’s legacy.
