President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed a five-member delegation to represent Nigeria at the burial of American civil rights leader Jesse Jackson.
Jackson died on February 17, 2026, in Chicago at the age of 84.
The delegation is led by George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Other members include the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

Also on the team are the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa, Special Presidential Envoy for Global and Pan-African Affairs Brian Browne, and Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and International Relations Sola Enikanolaye.
The delegation will deliver President Tinubu’s condolences to the Jackson family.
In an earlier tribute, Tinubu described Jackson as a strong supporter of Africa.
He said the late activist was a vocal opponent of apartheid in South Africa.
Tinubu noted that Jackson played a key role in the campaign for the release of Nelson Mandela and other leaders of the African National Congress.
Jackson also supported international sanctions against the apartheid government.
Funeral events for the civil rights leader began on February 26.
A lying-in-state was held at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters in Chicago.
Additional services are scheduled in South Carolina and Washington, D.C.
A public “People’s Celebration” will take place at the House of Hope Chicago on March 6.
A private homegoing service will follow on March 7 at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition.
