The bail hearing of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has been unexpectedly postponed after the Federal High Court declared a work-free day on Friday.

The hearing, scheduled to be held in Abuja, could not proceed as planned after court officials announced that no official activities would take place that day. As a result, the court calmly rescheduled the bail hearing to February 27, 2026.

Malami, who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services, was earlier expected to receive a ruling on his bail application.

The sudden halt has now extended his stay in detention.

The former justice minister was arraigned earlier this month alongside his son before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

They are facing serious charges linked to terrorism financing, aiding terrorist activities, and illegal possession of firearms.

Both defendants clearly pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.

At the last court sitting, Malami’s legal team requested bail verbally, but the judge firmly declined, insisting that only a written bail application could be considered. The matter was then adjourned to February 20 for a bail hearing and possible trial, which has now been shifted.
