The Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up in Gombe State has trained 120 Ward Facilitators in the Funakaye Local Government Area to strengthen women’s economic empowerment at the grassroots level.
The training was organised to equip facilitators with skills needed to mobilise women into groups and support sustainable livelihood activities in their communities.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Funakaye LGA Chairman, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Busum, described the initiative as a strategic step toward improving women’s economic capacity.
He assured participants of the council’s full support to ensure the programme succeeds. The State Project Coordinator, Hajiya Hauwa Adamu Saraki, said the Scale-Up programme aims to expand economic opportunities for women through organised structures and community-based support, noting that the facilitators will play a key role in ensuring transparency and effective implementation.
She also commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for supporting women’s empowerment and creating an enabling environment for the project.
Traditional leaders and project officials urged the facilitators to carry out their duties with dedication and fairness to enable women benefit fully from the initiative.
The training, conducted in collaboration with the Gombe State Ministry of Women Affairs, equipped participants with skills in group formation, financial literacy, record-keeping, and community mobilisation.
Each facilitator is expected to supervise 10 Women Affinity Groups, bringing the total to 1,200 groups across the area. The project is designed to improve women’s livelihoods, increase household incomes, and strengthen grassroots economic participation.
