Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has written Nigeria’s security authorities over alleged importation of thallium sulphate into the country.
He said the letter was part of his civic responsibility to seek clarification on reports concerning the dangerous chemical substance.
El-Rufai addressed the correspondence to the Office of the National Security Adviser, requesting transparency on the reported procurement.
Thallium sulphate is widely known as a highly toxic, odourless and colourless chemical with severe health and environmental risks.
According to him, citizens deserve reassurance that no harmful chemical enters the country without lawful purpose and control.
He stressed that public institutions must maintain trust through accountability, especially when dealing with sensitive or hazardous materials.
El-Rufai added that clarification would help prevent misinformation and reduce public anxiety over potential misuse of poisonous substances.
He described the matter as one of national interest, urging responsible handling of chemicals capable of endangering lives.
He expressed hope that the relevant agencies would provide clear information to assure Nigerians of their safety.
No official response had been issued by the security authorities at the time of filing this report.
