The lawmakers, through their spokesperson, Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, who represents Bakura Constituency, said their visit to the Presidential Villa was intended to discuss the circumstances surrounding their suspension and explore ways to resolve the dispute.
Bakura described reports suggesting that the lawmakers had returned to the APC as false and misleading, insisting that neither a defection nor a commitment to rejoin the party had taken place.
“Neither have we decamped to the APC nor promised to return to the APC. What took us to the Villa was to discuss the problem of why we were suspended, our pending entitlements and how to resolve it,” he said.
Lawmakers Promise Public Announcement on APC Return
Bakura said any decision by the lawmakers to formally return to the APC would be communicated publicly, adding that he would personally brief journalists if such a decision was reached.
He reiterated that the meeting with Tinubu should not be interpreted as confirmation of a political realignment, stressing that the immediate concerns were their suspension and unpaid entitlements.
The eight lawmakers had recently resigned from the APC before meeting the President at the Presidential Villa on Monday.
They were reportedly led to the meeting by the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.
The meeting triggered speculation about a possible return to the ruling party, but the lawmakers’ latest statement has rejected those claims.
Their position leaves the question of their future political affiliation open, pending any formal announcement by the lawmakers.
