Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled a Boko Haram/ISWAP extortion mission in Yobe State, neutralising one suspected terrorist and recovering weapons, ammunition, and logistics items during a targeted military operation.
The operation was conducted by troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, following credible intelligence that suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters were moving in two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles to collect illegal levies from residents in communities across the state.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, in collaboration with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol to the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19, 2026.
The troops intercepted the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce firefight. During the encounter, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was disabled, while its driver was neutralised.
According to the military, four other suspected terrorists abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds after coming under intense military fire.
Follow-up exploitation operations carried out on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned vehicle and several items believed to have supported terrorist activities.
Items recovered include 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools assessed to have supported terrorist logistics and sustainment operations.
The military said the operation successfully disrupted an extortion mission designed to generate funds for Boko Haram/ISWAP, further weakening the group’s operational and financial capabilities.
Operation HADIN KAI described the operation as another indication of the effectiveness of intelligence-led military operations in disrupting terrorist logistics, dismantling illicit revenue networks, and denying insurgents freedom of movement across the North East.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups in collaboration with other security agencies. It also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace, security, and stability in the region.
