President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the presence of the ministers’ spouses and senior government officials.
The appointments followed the resignation of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue their political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
President Tinubu had nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye for the positions, and both were confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026.
Tegbe, an indigene of Ibadan in Oyo State, brings more than 35 years of experience in fiscal, economic and institutional reforms across the public and private sectors. He holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University and master’s degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration from institutions in Switzerland and Birmingham.
Before his appointment, he served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led several government reform initiatives. He has also worked with key organisations including the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Shell, Huawei, General Electric and MTN.
The new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, hails from Igbagun in Kogi State. He earned a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he emerged as the best graduating student in his faculty. He also obtained a master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos with distinction.
Enikanolaiye joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary in 2016. During his 35-year diplomatic career, he served in Nigeria’s missions in Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada, the United Kingdom and India.
He is a recipient of several national honours and public service awards, including the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award and the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award.
Before his latest appointment, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
The appointments are expected to strengthen the administration’s efforts in the power sector and Nigeria’s foreign relations agenda.
