President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide presidential primaries, pledging to consolidate ongoing economic reforms and strengthen Nigeria’s development agenda if re-elected.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, where the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the President with the party’s certificate of return and symbolic flag ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking after accepting the nomination, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to party members for renewing their confidence in his leadership and vowed to serve with “greater determination” if given another four-year mandate.
He said his second-term agenda would focus on sustaining economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation.
“With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion and national progress,” the President stated.
Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, announced that the primary election was conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, covering 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards.
According to him, out of 12,643,316 registered party members, 11,069,746 were accredited, while 11,015,665 cast their votes. Tinubu’s only challenger, Stanley Osifo, secured 16,503 votes.
Anyim described the process as transparent and compliant with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), electoral laws, and the APC constitution.
President Tinubu used the occasion to highlight key achievements of his administration over the past three years, citing structural economic reforms, improved revenue generation, the removal of fuel subsidy, and reforms in the power sector.
He said the administration had disbursed over N282 billion through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries, while efforts to close the metering gap had led to the supply of 2.5 million electricity meters nationwide.
The President also noted progress in infrastructure development, including the construction of major highways, airport and seaport upgrades, and renewed investments in the oil and gas sector.
On security, Tinubu acknowledged ongoing challenges in parts of the country but assured Nigerians of his administration’s resolve to restore peace and stability.
“We will not rest until we restore peace and stability to every corner of our country,” he said.
He also extended an olive branch to political opponents, calling for dialogue and partnership in nation-building.
The President urged APC members to remain united and showcase the achievements of the party as preparations begin for the 2027 election.
