Islamic scholar Sheikh Nur Khalil has defended Nigerian music star Davido over his comments at the World Cup opening ceremony, saying the statement should not be turned into a religious or political controversy.

Sheikh Nur Khalil explained that Davido’s remarks about Nigeria’s security situation did not reveal any new information to the international community, as the country’s security challenges are already widely known globally.

According to the scholar, Nigeria has repeatedly engaged the international community for support, including military assistance and funding, in its efforts to tackle insurgency and insecurity.

He argued that Davido’s comments only highlighted an existing reality rather than damaging the country’s reputation.

The cleric cautioned against creating unnecessary divisions over the issue, stressing that national challenges should be addressed through honest conversations and collective efforts.

He maintained that discussing Nigeria’s security concerns does not amount to attacking the country, but rather acknowledging problems that require solutions.
