A video shared by Barbadian singer Rihanna after the 2026 Met Gala sparked fresh rivalry between fans of Tyla and Ayra Starr online.
The debate started after a viral clip showed Tyla standing nearby while Rihanna appeared busy speaking with someone else during the event.
Soon after, social media users claimed Rihanna ignored the South African singer.
The conversation intensified when Rihanna later posted a video using Ayra Starr’s song, “Who’s Dat Girl,” as background audio.
Many users interpreted the post as subtle shade toward Tyla.
“No way she used ‘Who’s Dat Girl’ by Ayra Starr in this video. Rihanna is messy,” X user #NuJhayhne wrote.
Other users mocked Tyla, while some defended Rihanna’s actions.
However, several fans argued that people exaggerated the situation.
Tyla had earlier dismissed rumours of tension between herself and Rihanna.
“Everyone knows I love RiRi,” she said in a TikTok video.
The singer explained that she avoided interrupting Rihanna at the Met Gala because the global star appeared occupied.
“So this time, I was waiting for my car and she was right there… she looked busy, so I stayed back,” Tyla said.
Meanwhile, Ayra Starr had also rejected online attempts to create rivalry between both artistes.
“Tyla is my homegirl, that’s my G,” the Nigerian singer said during an earlier interview.
Despite repeated clarifications from both artistes, fans across Nigeria and South Africa continue to fuel comparisons over awards, streaming numbers, and global success.
