Belgium are set to appoint former Netherlands captain Mark Van Bommel as their new head coach.
Van Bommel has agreed a deal that will keep him in charge until June 2028. He is expected to replace Rudi Garcia following Belgium’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Agreement Reached
Although the contracts have not yet been signed, all parties have reached a full agreement. An official announcement is expected once the final paperwork is completed.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying Van Bommel had agreed to become Belgium’s next head coach.
First International Coaching Role
The Belgium job will be Van Bommel’s first role in international football.
The former midfielder has built his coaching career at club level. He has managed PSV Eindhoven, VfL Wolfsburg and Belgian side Royal Antwerp.
His biggest success came at Royal Antwerp during the 2022-23 season. He guided the club to a historic Belgian league and cup double.
Belgium will now look to begin a new chapter under Van Bommel as they prepare for the next international cycle after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
