The 2026 FIFA World Cup is heating up, and the first teams have already secured their places in the Round of 32.
After two rounds of group-stage matches, six nations have officially booked their spots in the knockout stage, at the same time, four teams have seen their World Cup dreams come to an early end.
The new 48 team tournament format allows 32 teams to advance. The top two teams from each group qualify automatically, along with the eight best third placed teams. Several football giants have already secured qualification.
Mexico became the first team to reach the knockout stage after winning its opening two matches in Group A. The United States also advanced after strong victories over Paraguay and Australia.
Germany booked its place from Group E with back to back wins. Argentina followed after defeating Austria and Algeria in Group J.
Group I became the first group to send two teams through. France and Norway both secured enough points to guarantee Round of 32 places before the final group matches.

While some teams are celebrating, others are heading home. Curacao, Turkey, Iraq, and Qatar have all been eliminated from the tournament after poor results in their opening matches with no realistic path to qualification remaining, their World Cup campaigns are over. The early exits highlight the fierce competition in the expanded tournament, where every point matters.
Several other nations are on the verge of joining the knockout stage. Canada and Switzerland are in strong positions in Group B, Brazil and Morocco are leading the race in Group C.
The Netherlands and Japan have impressed in Group F, while Spain looks set to advance from Group H. Egypt and Iran are also fighting for places in the next round.
The final group stage matches will decide many of the remaining qualification spots. Some of football’s biggest names have already made their mark like, Lionel Messi helped Argentina secure qualification with another standout performance, Erling Haaland inspired Norway’s strong start, while France continued to impress with a balanced attack.
Germany and the United States have also looked among the strongest teams in the tournament so far with six teams already through and four eliminated, the battle for the World Cup is entering a crucial phase.
More nations will secure qualification in the coming days as the group stage reaches its climax.
