Lamine Yamal will miss the rest of the season after picking up an injury. However, he is still expected to be fit for the FIFA World Cup.

The 18-year-old forward suffered a hamstring injury during FC Barcelona’s 1–0 win over Celta Vigo on Wednesday.

Yamal scored from the penalty spot in the 40th minute. Shortly after, he signalled to the bench and went down in pain. He held his left hamstring as medical staff rushed onto the pitch.

The staff helped him off the field, and he went straight down the tunnel.

Barcelona confirmed the injury on Thursday. The club said Yamal will follow a conservative treatment plan. He will not play again this season.

Despite this setback, Barcelona expect him to recover in time for the World Cup.

Barcelona currently lead the La Liga table. They sit nine points ahead of Real Madrid. The two teams will meet on 10 May.

Spain will begin their World Cup campaign in Group H. They face Cape Verde on 15 June. They will then play Saudi Arabia on 21 June and Uruguay on 27 June.

Yamal now focuses on recovery as he aims to return in time for the tournament.
