Nigerian skitmaker and satire creator Kevin Chinedu, known for his “Governor Amuneke” character, has rejected an offer to serve as a youth ambassador for the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Chinedu announced his decision in a video on his X account on Monday, explaining that the message about the role filled him with pride and marked a major milestone in his journey.
He said the recognition meant a lot because of his background and the struggles he overcame before gaining attention, describing the opportunity as a national honour that brought him joy and reflection.
Chinedu explained that the role would involve working with notable figures while engaging young Nigerians on civic duties such as voter registration and participation in elections.
However, he began to question the offer after raising concerns about how it would affect his content. He asked whether he could continue to criticise INEC if he accepted the position.
He said the response allowed him to create content and promote civic awareness but prevented him from directly criticising the commission.
That condition immediately changed his perception of the opportunity. Chinedu stated that such limits conflict with the purpose of his platform, which focuses on satire, accountability, and amplifying public concerns.
He stressed that accepting restrictions would weaken his message and silence important voices. He added that his work draws from real-life experiences and the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.
Chinedu thanked those who recommended him and expressed openness to partnerships that do not restrict his voice or creative direction.
