At least 17 people have been killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip as fighting continues despite renewed efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
The latest strikes targeted several areas of Gaza, adding to the growing humanitarian crisis as thousands of civilians remain displaced and essential services continue to deteriorate.
According to Palestinian health officials, the victims included civilians killed in attacks on residential areas, while many others were injured. Rescue workers continued searching through damaged buildings for survivors.
The renewed violence comes despite a fresh ceasefire proposal backed by President Trump, who has been pushing both Israel and Hamas to agree to a deal that would halt the fighting, facilitate the release of hostages and expand humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza.
So far, however, no breakthrough has been announced, with both sides continuing military operations.
Israel has maintained that its offensive is aimed at dismantling Hamas’ military capabilities and securing the release of hostages still held in Gaza. The Israeli military says it targets militant infrastructure while accusing Hamas of operating from civilian areas.
Hamas, meanwhile, continues to demand a permanent ceasefire, increased humanitarian assistance and guarantees over the future of Gaza before agreeing to any lasting deal.
The ongoing conflict has deepened the humanitarian emergency in the territory, where aid agencies warn of severe shortages of food, clean water, medicine and shelter.
International leaders have repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and greater protection for civilians, while humanitarian organizations continue to urge unrestricted access for relief supplies.
Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue in the coming days, but the latest escalation highlights the challenges facing negotiators as violence persists on the ground.
