Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje has rejected the consensus arrangement announced by the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State.

Party leaders had earlier endorsed a consensus candidate for the Gombe Central senatorial seat during a meeting led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. The decision named a retired police officer as the preferred candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, Goje disagreed with the process. Through his aide, he said the meeting did not include all aspirants who bought nomination forms. He argued that the arrangement excluded many qualified party members and did not follow due process.

Goje insisted that the law clearly states how political parties must choose candidates. He pointed out that the Independent National Electoral Commission recognises only approved methods such as primary elections.

He also warned against imposing candidates, saying it goes against Nigeria’s electoral laws. According to him, all aspirants deserve a fair chance through a transparent process.

The senator, who seeks another term, called on the party to organise proper primaries that will allow members to vote and choose their candidate.

This development may create tension within the party in Gombe as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
