Fubara Withdraws from APC Primaries

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 election.

The governor announced his withdrawal in a statement released on Wednesday in Port Harcourt and said his decision reflect a wide consultations with family members, friends and political associates.

Fubara said he withdrew to protect peace, stability and unity in Rivers State.

He stressed that leadership requires sacrifice and sometimes demands that personal ambition gives way to public interest.

“Rivers State is bigger than any individual,” he said.

He added that the current political moment required restraint and unity, thanked his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices.

Fubara admitted that many of them would feel disappointed by his decision, but insisted that their support had not been wasted.

“I understand the disappointment, the anger and the pain many of you may feel,” he said.

“But your loyalty and trust were never in vain.”

Fubara pledged support for whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State.

He described the APC as a collective political home.

He urged party members to remain united and focused on shared goals.

The governor said his recent silence was deliberate.

He explained that he chose restraint to protect the interest of the state.

He said some decisions require quiet reflection rather than public discussion.

“Not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace,” he said.

Fubara thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and encouragement.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serve Rivers State until the end of his tenure.

He also urged calm among supporters and called for continued unity within the party.

He maintained that his withdrawal was not a sign of weakness but a decision made for peace and progress.
