Abuja has recorded the launch of its first self-service fuel station, as S.E expands its technology-driven retail operations into the Federal Capital Territory.
The station, located in the Wuse area of Abuja, allows customers to independently complete the fuelling process, from payment and pump authorisation to dispensing fuel and confirming the transaction.
Speaking on the deployment, Abiola Ameen, Chief Marketing Officer of Sunbeth Energies, said the initiative gives customers greater control and visibility over their fuel purchases.
He explained that customers at the Wuse station can select the quantity or value of fuel they require, make payment, receive authorisation to use the pump and dispense the fuel themselves.
“The transaction is confirmed through the system once fuelling is complete,” Ameen said.
According to him, the self-service experience is designed to improve convenience while giving customers greater visibility throughout the purchasing process.
However, trained customer experience personnel will remain available at the station to assist customers, particularly those using the self-service system for the first time.
The Abuja deployment builds on Sunbeth Energies’ experience with its self-service facility at its Ogba outlet in Lagos.
Ameen said the Lagos station recorded 100 per cent transaction success and zero service downtime over the past month, describing the experience as valuable in understanding customer behaviour and improving station operations.
“Taking self-service fuelling to Abuja is an important development for our retail operations,” he said.
“Our experience at Ogba showed us how customers interact with the system, where they need support and what is required to keep the process running smoothly at the station.”
He added that lessons from the Lagos operation had been incorporated into the Wuse deployment, with emphasis on reliability, customer service and building customer confidence in self-service fuelling.
Also speaking, Lateef Abioye, Managing Director of Sunbeth Energies, said the performance of the Lagos deployment had strengthened the company’s belief that technology, convenience and customer experience would increasingly shape the future of downstream retail.
The self-service process at the Wuse station involves five major stages: selecting the required fuel quantity or value, making payment, receiving pump authorisation, dispensing the fuel and confirming the completed transaction.
The launch marks an expansion of Sunbeth Energies’ self-service offering beyond Lagos and provides customers in Abuja with an alternative way of purchasing fuel.
