Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has intensified efforts to resolve the growing crisis within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a high-level meeting with leaders of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
The closed-door meeting, held as part of ongoing reconciliation efforts, brought together the national leadership of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dickson, and top officials of the NDC to address disagreements threatening party unity in Kano State.
According to the party, the discussions focused on resolving disputes between members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and legacy officials of the NDC in Kano. The leadership said the intervention is aimed at promoting inclusion, participation, and harmony among party members ahead of future political activities. (Punch Newspapers)
The crisis emerged after allegations that the Kwankwasiyya bloc sought greater control of the party structure in Kano, leading to disagreements over candidate nominations and party administration. Some party officials accused supporters of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of sidelining other stakeholders, claims that have further deepened tensions within the party.
In response, the NDC leadership reiterated its commitment to internal democracy and assured members that no candidates would be imposed in Kano State or any other part of the country. The party also clarified that no official results from its primary elections have been released and urged members to disregard unofficial lists circulating on social media.
Party leaders expressed optimism that the ongoing dialogue led by Dickson would help restore confidence among members and strengthen cohesion within the NDC. The reconciliation efforts come amid concerns that prolonged disagreements could affect the party’s preparations for future elections. (Punch Newspapers)
