The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Board has paid a study tour visit to the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD) to learn from its achievements and best practices in promoting disability inclusion.
The visit, which took place on Monday, June 8, 2026, was part of efforts by the Zamfara PWD Board to strengthen its operations and improve services for persons with disabilities in the state.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board, Alhaji Usman Ahmad Nahuche, said Gombe was selected as the first destination for the study tour because of the remarkable progress recorded by the Commission under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Mr. Ishiyaku Adamu.
Nahuche noted that although the Zamfara PWD Board was established only seven months ago, it was determined to learn from successful models across the country. He described the Gombe Commission as a leading example of effective disability inclusion and institutional development.
He praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities and for appointing Mr. Adamu, whom he described as one of Nigeria’s most respected disability rights advocates, to lead the Commission.
According to him, the achievements recorded by the GSCPWD have attracted national recognition and positioned Gombe State as a model for disability inclusion in Nigeria.
The Zamfara delegation also commended the peaceful environment, rapid development, and infrastructure growth in Gombe State, attributing these accomplishments to the leadership and people-focused policies of Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
Responding, the Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Ishiyaku Adamu, welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for choosing Gombe as their preferred destination for institutional learning and exchange.
He highlighted key achievements of the Commission since its establishment, including policy development, institutional strengthening, disability rights advocacy, partnership expansion, improved accessibility, and increased opportunities for persons with disabilities across the state.
Adamu attributed the successes to the support and commitment of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, whose administration, he said, has demonstrated strong dedication to the inclusion, empowerment, and protection of persons with disabilities.
He assured the Zamfara delegation of the Commission’s willingness to share experiences, best practices, and innovative approaches that could help strengthen disability inclusion efforts nationwide.
The visit featured interactive sessions between members of the Zamfara delegation and officials of the Gombe Commission, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas and practical strategies for advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities.
Observers say the visit further reinforces Gombe State’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in disability inclusion and institutional development in Nigeria.
