Barau FC retained top spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after Matchday 6, despite a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lagos.
The leaders moved to 12 points from six matches, keeping a one-point advantage over Rivers United and Plateau United, who both have 11 points.
Sporting Lagos earned a valuable point against Barau FC in Saturday’s opening fixture. The draw extended Barau FC’s unbeaten start to six matches, with three wins and three draws.
Rivers and Plateau united Keep Pressure on Leaders
Rivers United missed the chance to move level with Barau FC after a goalless draw with Ranchers Bees on Monday. The result kept Rivers second on 11 points, while Ranchers Bees moved to seven points.
A 2-0 victory over Inter Lagos took Plateau United to 11 points and kept them among the early pace-setters. The club also boasts a goal difference of plus three.
Doma United entered the matchday in fourth place but suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Katsina United. That loss left the club on 10 points, while Katsina United moved to six points.
Rangers International also dropped points after a 2-0 defeat to Ikorodu City. Despite the setback, Rangers remain fifth with 10 points, while Ikorodu City climbed to eight points.
Abia Warriors Among Matchday’s Biggest Winners
Abia Warriors recorded one of the biggest victories of the matchday, defeating Bendel Insurance 3-0 to move into eighth place with eight points.
Elsewhere, Warri Wolves edged Shooting Stars 1-0, while Nasarawa United defeated Niger Tornadoes by the same scoreline. Kun Khalifat also secured a 1-0 victory over Kwara United.
At the bottom of the table, Enyimba International earned their first point of the season after a goalless draw with Kano Pillars. The nine-time NPFL champions now sit 20th with one point from five matches.
After six matchdays, Barau FC remain at the top of the standings, with Rivers United and Plateau United just one point behind. The results also highlight a tightly packed table, with several clubs still within touching distance of the leading positions.
