Federal Polytechnic Oko has denied reports that students died in the collapse of a private hostel near its campus in Anambra State.
The school said no registered student lost their life in the incident, urging the public to ignore false reports and wait for verified updates from the authorities.
The three storey building collapsed in Oko, causing panic among students and residents. Emergency workers quickly arrived at the scene and they searched the rubble, rescued victims, and took injured people to nearby hospitals.
Early social media posts claimed that students had died, however, officials said those reports were not confirmed. The school stressed that false information spread quickly after the collapse.
Federal Polytechnic Oko said it is working with emergency agencies and security officials. The institution also asked students and parents to remain calm while investigations continue.
