Senator Aisha Binani has defected from the African Democratic Congress to the National Democratic Coalition, intensifying political realignments ahead of the Adamawa State governorship election.
The former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 election cited internal disputes within the ADC as the reason for her exit.
According to sources, Binani’s faction was reportedly sidelined following disagreements with Babachir Lawal, who is said to be backing former Governor Jibrilla Bindow for the party’s governorship ticket.
Meanwhile, efforts to resolve the crisis appear to have failed. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar reportedly held several meetings to mediate between the factions. However, Binani alleged that the resolutions reached were not implemented by the opposing camp.
As a result, the senator has now moved to the NDC, where she is expected to secure the party’s governorship ticket.
The defection is likely to reshape the political landscape in Adamawa State.
In addition, Binani’s entry into the race under a new platform could intensify competition among major parties. Analysts say her candidacy may split votes and influence the outcome of the election.
She is expected to face candidates from both the APC and ADC in what could become a highly contested governorship race.
Overall, Binani’s defection underscores growing internal challenges within political parties and highlights shifting alliances ahead of the elections.
Her next move under the NDC platform will be closely watched as the race for Adamawa Government House gathers momentum.
