The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to higher ranks following written examinations and oral interviews held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the PSC said one Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Usman Gumel, was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. Gumel was previously in charge of the Community Policing Project Department, Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters.
The Commission also promoted seven Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners of Police.

In addition, thirty Assistant Commissioners of Police were elevated to Deputy Commissioners of Police, while fifty-one Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police.
The PSC further approved the promotion of 542 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents of Police, 119 Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents of Police, and twelve Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents of Police.
Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to justify their elevation through professionalism, discipline, and dedication to duty.
He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to regular and merit-based promotions in line with best practices and charged the officers to strengthen policing, protect lives and property, and uphold law and order nationwide.
