President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the Senate’s confirmation of the nominees on December 16.
The reconstituted board is chaired by Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni, whose appointment took effect from December 1, 2025, and will run until the completion of his statutory ten-year tenure in line with the Electricity Act, 2023. Oseni has served as a commissioner since January 2017 and previously held the position of Vice Chairman.
Dr Yusuf Ali was named Vice Chairman of the Commission, effective December 1, 2025. He was first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022 and will serve in the role until the end of his current term.
Other members of the board include Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr Dafe Akpeneye, and Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, all serving second terms after their initial appointments in 2017 and 2020 respectively.

Dr Chidi Ike, first appointed in February 2022, continues as a commissioner, while Dr Fouad Animashaun joins the board for his first term, effective December 2025. Animashaun is an energy economist and was most recently the Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu charged the board to deepen reforms in the power sector and ensure strict implementation of the Electricity Act, 2023, as part of efforts to consolidate ongoing sector transformation.
